My Kidney Recovery After Cancer Treatment
J.C., Texas, USA

In late 2023, a routine mammogram changed everything. I was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer.

I'm two hours from MD Anderson in Houston, so that's where I went. The tumor was caught early - it hadn't spread - and after chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy, my oncologist told me in 2025 that I was cured. Less than a five percent chance of it coming back. MD Anderson doesn't throw numbers around, so that meant something.

But surviving treatment and actually feeling well are two very different things. My body was wrecked and that part they don't help you with.

Finding a Different Kind of Guide

I found a local herbalist-naturalist near my hometown in Texas and she became my guide for rebuilding. When she looked at my blood work, one number stood out: my eGFR was 57. (note: An eGFR is a test that shows how well your kidneys are cleaning your blood.) The normal threshold is 60. Chemo and immunotherapy are both filtered through the kidneys and mine had paid the price.

My regular doctor flagged it as concerning, then told me to drink 60 ounces of water a day. That was the extent of the advice.

My herbalist had a different idea. She suggested I try wrist pulsing for my kidneys. She'd seen it help others.

I started with 20 minutes a day - wearing the unit on my wrist, simple enough to do while sitting at my desk or watching TV. I kept it consistent. Six months later, my eGFR had gone from 57 to 60. Back in the normal range. It wasn't dramatic, but it was movement - and after everything I'd been through, movement felt like hope.

When I reported back to my herbalist, she asked how long I was using it each day.

"Twenty minutes," I said.

"Go up to one to two hours," she said.

So I did. For the next six months, I wore the wrist pulsing unit for one to two hours every day - sometimes more. I'd get into a project on my computer and look down and realize I'd been wearing it for three hours without thinking about it. It just became part of my day.

The Numbers Start to Climb

At my next round of testing, my eGFR had climbed to 70.

57. Then 60. Then 70. One year. Consistent daily use.

Seeing my kidney-function numbers improve after everything my body had gone through felt incredibly encouraging. It was one of the first objective signs that my recovery efforts were moving in the right direction.

Alongside pulsing, I focused on hydration and silver - all part of a plan my herbalist helped me put together. For water, I drink 60 ounces of filtered water every day, with about 20 of those ounces ozonated.

For silver, I started with a teaspoon of Ionic Colloidal Silver twice daily for the first three months after treatment, then tapered to a tablespoon a day for maintenance - though I do take breaks from it here and there. But according to my herbalist, it's the consistent daily use of the wrist pulsing that she believes has been the most important piece for supporting healthy kidney function.

Where I Am Today

Now I'm halfway through the year and overall I'm feeling good. My mammogram came back clear. My blood work continues to look encouraging. The only lingering issue I'm still working on is slightly low red blood cell counts from treatment, which my doctors say can simply take time to recover.

I still use the wrist pulsing every day. If I'm traveling for more than a day or two, I pack it - it's just part of my routine now. And I didn't feel a thing using it. No side effects, no disruption.

My herbalist has a saying: "I'm here to boost, help, and inform you - but only God heals." She's not making grand promises and neither am I. What I know is that my numbers moved. Consistently. In the right direction.

Cancer treatment was one journey. Recovery has been another. What I've learned is that healing doesn't happen overnight - it's the small, consistent things you do every day that seem to matter most.

I'm grateful for where I am. And I'm hopeful about where I'll be six months from now.
