How much ionic colloidal silver can be taken daily?

Short Answer: If taking ionic colloidal silver on a regular basis over a long time, 1 - 2 ounces (30 - 60 ml) per day is sufficient. Some choose to take several ounces, several times per day for several weeks or months. When drinking a larger quantity of ionic colloidal silver, it is best to sip in smaller amounts throughout the day, rather than one large dose. This will aid the body to more effectively use the ionic colloidal silver.

Digging Deeper: As with any supplement used for an extended length of time, it is wise to take breaks. Two authors offer more precise suggestions based on their research: "In 1940 and 1966, respectively, R.A. Kehoe and I.H. Tipton reported that under normal circumstances the average daily diet will yield approximately 50 mcg to 100 mcg of silver." (Colloidal Silver by Zane Baranowski)

One teaspoon (5 ml) of 5 PPM contains about 25 mcg of silver. That means about 1 ounce or 30 ml (6 teaspoons) contains about 150 mcg of silver. This is ample considering the amounts suggested by Kehoe and Tipton.

Based on the Kehoe and Tipton research, another author suggests drinking a cautious amount daily. He suggests at 5 PPM, ~50 mcg (2 teaspoons or 10 ml) to 100 mcg (4 teaspoons or 20 ml) is a "nutritional" daily quantity and any amount above that be considered a "therapeutic" quantity. In some circumstances, a therapeutic amount may be preferred for a period of time. ("A Closer Look At Colloidal Silver" by Peter A. Lindemann) Note: This answer is copied from www.sota.com as we feel it is the most comprehensive answer.

Is ionic silver more beneficial to the body than colloidal silver?

We believe both ionic silver and colloidal silver can be beneficial, and both forms can be readily absorbed.

Of the two, ionic silver has the smaller particle size. When making your own solution at home using the constant current process, the result is largely ionic. It is easy, convenient, and very inexpensive.

There are several options available commercially. Most are largely ionic and very few are colloidal. To make a true colloidal silver, a more expensive, controlled commercial process is required to ensure a small enough particle size.

Does drinking ionic colloidal silver kill friendly bacteria in the gut?

In all our years working with the Beck Protocol, we’ve seen no indications that ionic colloidal silver kills friendly bacteria.

Keep in mind, in the early stages of taking ionic colloidal silver, you may experience bowel irregularities due to detoxification effects.

How effective is home-made ionic colloidal silver?

Our personal experience and collective feedback is that homemade ionic colloidal silver is convenient, inexpensive, and effective in a wide range of applications.

Do I risk argyria by regularly drinking ionic colloidal silver?

It is very unlikely that anyone preparing and ingesting ionic colloidal silver according to our guidelines, will develop argyria. Very unlikely.

Argyria is very rare. To put the rare risk of argyria in perspective, we feature the experiences of three individuals who developed argyria in The Scoop on Argyria and a program that may reverse argyria.

I saw Bob Beck making ionic colloidal silver with tap water. Is this how it is done?

No. Tap water is usually chlorinated, and the resulting chemical reaction leads to larger particle sizes as well as silver chloride which is not as biocompatible as pure ionic colloidal silver. It is best to use distilled water. Of all easily-obtained water sources, distilled water has the least amount of chemicals, minerals, and other impurities.

Digging Deeper: Bob's early ionic colloidal silver demonstrations used tap water, as it was quickly and easily observable by the audience. When preparing your own solution at home, use distilled water. Additives like minerals and chemicals can cause the formation of unintended compounds that may or may not be safe, as well as a larger particle size that won't be easily absorbed.

How do I make ionic colloidal silver?

There are three methods to preparing homemade ionic colloidal silver, depending on the type of silver-making unit you're using. Of the three methods, we recommend the Constant Current method. It's the simplest process, and produces the most consistent quality. For an overview on each method, please refer to our Ionic Colloidal Silver Method Comparison Chart.

Do I have to use distilled water?

Distilled water is the best choice to produce quality homemade ionic colloidal silver. Other forms of water may contain minerals or chemicals that will react with the ionic silver, forming unintended compounds and/or producing larger particle sizes of silver, making it harder to absorb and eliminate.

In emergencies and for short-term use, other water sources can be used like tap water, reverse osmosis, filtered water and bottled water (look for zero or low-salt).

Distilled water is inexpensive and readily available in North America. In other countries, one needs to be more resourceful. Check with pharmacies and medical supply stores. Distilled water is used in a variety of non-medical industries, as well. Be creative in your searches, but verify what you find is suitable for human consumption. There are also a range of water distillers for sale that allow one to produce your own distilled water at home.

Can I ozonate ionic colloidal silver?

No. It is not recommended to ozonate a silver solution as the ozone may oxidize the silver rendering it ineffective.

Can I drink ionic colloidal silver and ozonated water together?

No. While we understand the inclination to combine two awesome items into one super awesome item, this just isn't a good idea. Ozonating a silver solution may oxidize the silver, rendering it ineffective. Best to keep the two separate. We suggest drinking ozonated water first, waiting 30 minutes or more, and then following up with the ionic colloidal silver. This way you'll reap the full benefits of each.
